Midtown SideWALK

Join us for a casual SideWALK around the Garden District to celebrate over half a million dollars of critical quality of life improvements to our walkways completed in 2020.  Beginning in 2018, MNA advocated and led an effort to apply TSPLOST funds to our sidewalks – a Garden District Master Plan priority.  We are thrilled it is a wrap and we want to celebrate with a nice evening stroll with our neighbors.

The walk is at your own pace and we encourage everyone to wear a mask.

Please make plans to start at “Base Camp.”  It is located at 807 Argonne Avenue, the home of Dawn Landau, MNA VIBE Chairman and resident sidewalk expert.

We have abandoned, leftover tree stumps in the right-of-way throughout the Garden District.  The stumps are unsightly.  They accumulate trash, prevent replanting, and often continue to obstruct the sidewalk for years after the tree is gone.  When the City of Atlanta removes a tree, the stump is not considered part of the required removal process.  The residual trunk is submitted to a “stump grinding waitlist” that is multi-year and not currently active.

MNA is launching our first project-specific fundraising campaign to GRIND THE MIDTOWN STUMPS.  Please make a donation of any size to this effort.  Every dollar helps.

The location of stumps is currently being cataloged.  Grinding will be based on total funds raised, pricing from competitive bids, and impact prioritization. If you’d like to make sure a stump you see is on the list, email VIBE.

Our friends, Beth and Scott Cullen – hosts of @homebartender and Argonne neighbors – custom crafted a cocktail – “The Tight Squeeze” – for you to enjoy while you walk.  The Tight Squeeze was one of Midtown’s first neighborhood names dating back to the 1800s.  The playful name refers to the severe bend on Peachtree just north of 10th Street.  And to keep the local flare going, the Cullens formulated the recipe so that you could choose local ingredients to be a true ATL enthusiast!

THE TIGHT SQUEEZE

2 ounces of gin  (rec Old Fourth Ward gin)

0.5 ounce of honey syrup  (half Georgia honey and half water, warmed in order to combine the flavors, then stored in the fridge)

Juice of 1/2 a lemon (purchased at L&M Market)

2 dashes of grapefruit lavender bitters (rec 1821 Bitters in PCM)

A handful of any herb  (we used pineapple sage that we had in our garden last year, but it can be anything you have – mint, rosemary, thyme, basil)

Combine all ingredients into a shaker with ice.

Shake and double strain into a cocktail glass.

Garnish with a lemon peel or edible flowers.
