What does it mean to love our Midtown neighborhood?
Midtown is home. It is a unique combination of a dense, walkable, community with smaller scale homes, and significant public space. Users include homeowners, business owners, and government entities (i.e. Piedmont Park Conservancy) that must come together to contribute.
What unique qualities do you offer that will continue the positive growth and work of MNA?
In the position of Chair of the Land Use Committee, I will be able to contribute knowledge from previous years of Midtown service. A further understanding of building plans and construction systems will facilitate create problem solving. I will continue to have the support of other members’ collective understanding and experience. Continuing to serve on the DRC will facilitate a liaison between the neighborhood’s commercial and residential users.
How are you a good Midtown neighbor today?
I have served on the Land Use Committee for 5+ years, including representing MNA on the Midtown Development Review Committee for almost two years.
Where would you like to see progress in our community?
I would like to see a vision for the overall future of the neighborhood, citing examples from other metropolitans, which also capitalize on our existing resources. When there is a study, I’d like to see that insight shared more publicly in order to onboard more stakeholders and more momentum. I’d like to see a strong effort to revitalize and re-energize our street level from property owners, brokers, developers, and the community. I would also like to see more enforcement of improvements to infrastructure including streetscaping and utilities. Further, it seems there’s been an increase in drug use and loitering along our commercial corridors which suggests an improved solution for the homeless population is also badly needed.
