What does it mean to love our Midtown neighborhood?
As a graduate student who is far away from her home and family in Pennsylvania, forming a community in Atlanta was really important to me. The walkability from Tech’s campus and to friends, and the access to essentials such as parks and restaurants has aided in my sense of community. Loving midtown means caring for the neighborhood through engaging with community members and organizations.
What unique qualities do you offer that will continue the positive growth and work of MNA?
I am a PhD student at Georgia Tech studying Civil Engineering conducting research on community supported stormwater system decision making. I am also part of the Graduate Student Government at Tech serving as the VP of Student Life. My perspective as a student will aid MNA in understanding their younger residents. My research perspective will aid in community engagement efforts and infrastructure improvements.
How are you a good Midtown neighbor today?
I attend community events where I can such as streets alive and events in Piedmont Park. I also try and get to know my neighbors and be friendly to those I come across on my frequent walks to friend’s places, Trader Joes, and the Beltline.
Where would you like to see progress in our community?
As someone who lives in Midtown, I am interested in improved safety and accessibility by walking and transit. For example, Sixth and Peachtree Street NE is a corner where safety improvements are needed. As a civil engineer, I am overall interested in infrastructure improvements. As a member of student government, I would like to see more affordable housing.
