What does it mean to love our Midtown neighborhood?
To love Midtown is to recognize its diversity and energy. I believe it is important to maintain a careful balance of embracing change while also making it a priority to maintain the character that makes this neighborhood unique. To love Midtown is to actively support our neighborhood – by picking up litter on the street, shopping local, dining at neighboring restaurants, showing up at events, volunteering whenever possible, or serving on one of MNA’s numerous committees.
What unique qualities do you offer that will continue the positive growth and work of MNA?
As soon as my husband and I purchased our home in Midtown during the summer of 2020, I was eager to meet neighbors and to become involved in our new community. I whole heartedly agree with the words of Eckhart Tolle, “When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation or accept it, all else is madness.” As such, I always look for ways to get involved, find out what issues exist, and then work to improve them. I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to serve as a board member for the Midtown Neighbors’ Association for the past two years and look forward to bringing my contagious enthusiasm and almost OCD organizational skills to the team for many more years.
How are you a good Midtown neighbor today?
In the past two years as the Gardens Committee Chair I have implemented biweekly maintenance for all of the green spaces in the Garden District area and organized numerous work days for planting, weeding, and pruning. Our committee hosted the highly successful fundraiser, Cocktails in the Courtyard, to supplement substantial neighbor donations to kickstart the project. I was instrumental in partnering MNA with Park Pride to officially adopt our green spaces as the Midtown Park Promenade and with EarthCore Group for their generous donation of five planters at the commercial node of 6th Street and Argonne. I have many additional exciting projects in the works for 2023!
Where would you like to see progress in our community?
Since joining MNA’s Board of Directors in 2021, I learned quickly that a very small number of people are responsible for overseeing a very large list of important tasks and responsibilities. I would love to see more residents of Midtown become actively involved in our neighborhood by joining committees or volunteering at events. So much more could be achieved – and quicker – with a robust and committed group of neighbors involved.
