The Fulton County District Attorney’s office sums it up best: Citizen’s Court Watch is one of the most successful and recognizable Fulton County Community Prosecution initiatives. Often dubbed the ‘eyes and ears’ of the community in court, Court Watch was created by District Attorney Howard as a vehicle to engage citizens in the criminal justice system. Community Prosecutors track cases involving violent or repeat offenders. Residents are encouraged to attend court proceedings and, when deemed appropriate by the presiding judge, offer perspective regarding the impact of a defendant’s criminal activity on our community.
There are three steps to addressing crime in Midtown: (1) reporting crime; (2) making an arrest; and (3) ensuring thorough prosecution. The MNA Safety Committee works in close collaboration with the City of Atlanta’s Citizens’ Court Watch program to help ensure that captured criminals are prosecuted and sentenced to deter them from returning to our Midtown community.
