National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by Midtown Neighbors’ Association, involves over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 38.5 million people will participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’.
MNA National Night Out is designed to:
- heighten crime prevention awareness and educate the community about drug addiction and mental health resources;
- generate support for, and participation in, local public safety efforts like the MNA Safety Patrol Program and Midtown Blue;
- expand knowledge of and engagement with outreach programs like Intown Cares, MAC, Our House, and PAD for sustainable support solutions;
- strengthen neighborhood spirit and civil servant-community partnerships;
- provide educational materials on home and personal safety measures; and
- send a message to criminals letting them know Midtown is organized, aware, and taking steps to maintain the safety of our neighborhood.
A FREE BLOCK PARTY FOR OUR MIDTOWN NEIGHBORS
Join us for an evening outside with neighbors, public safety partners, community outreach volunteers, and Midtown’s civic leaders. Our first responders give each and every day to our community to keep us out of harm’s way and to be there to assist in those emergency moments when we need them. During National Night Out, we connect you directly to these brave and dedicated individuals in our community. You can ask questions, explore a truck, sign up to support an outreach program during the year, get more involved with MNA, and share your thoughts on how to create a safe and welcoming community. We also give thanks to our first responders for showing up each and every day for us.
Public safety is a team effort and requires more than just our first response teams to provide for our community. Each year, Midtown invites outreach organizations to join our event and share their work and opportunities for you to support them.
Come enjoy a bite to eat, a cool drink, great conversation. Shake the hands of those that serve our neighborhood. Chat with decision makers all in one place that are shaping our city’s approach to public safety.
2026 ORGANIZATIONS, GUESTS AND PLAYFUL ACTIVITIES
Every year, our partners join us to connect with YOU about how to create and sustain a safe neighborhood. Check some of the partners will join for this year’s block party and make a plan to come by and chat with them. Are you part of an organization that would like to have a table at our event? Email our NNO Event Director, Paul Luppino.

APD Leadership + Zone 5 Team
APD Chief of Police Schierbaum and Zone 5 Commander Major Hunt will arrive to mingle with our neighborhood, discuss how we – the community – can help deter crime, and what their departments do every single day to address criminals and protect residents in our community. They can discuss special event preparedness, specialized training to respond to quality of life concerns, recruitment and retention, and current crime trends in Midtown.

Atlanta Fire and Rescue
Midtown’s Engine 15 located on 10th Street always arrives with a giant red truck for kids to climb on and some of our local AFD heroes ready to chat about CO2 and smoke monitors, how to safely exit a house fire, closing your doors at night and car seats. Who knows…you might be inspired to join their ranks!

APD Mounted Patrol
Kids and adults can enjoy meeting some of APD’s finest. Did you know that each horse is a sworn officer of the APD? Where do they wear their badge?

Midtown City Council Members
We are fortunate to have engaged and accessible City Council Members in Midtown. Council Members Dozier (D4), Bond (D2), Wan (D6), Amos (D3) and Westmoreland (Post 2) will be with us, answering your questions and sharing some insight into what City Council can do to keep Atlanta welcoming and safe.

E-911 Call Center
Have been on hold with 911? Did you call and wonder why the response was slower than expected? Join our event to chat with the Director of Atlanta’s new E911 Call Center and learn about their recent location change, how supervisors monitor calls and manage hold times, and how you can text 911.

Community Outreach Programs
We are excited to have Policing Alternatives and Diversion (PAD), Our House, Intown Cares, HOPE Atlanta, Red Cross, ATL311, and more with us to share their outreach work in the community. They will share actions you can take as a volunteer to and be part of taking care of our community and each other.

Midtown Blue
Midtown Blue is a private security program run by Midtown Alliance to support public safety response and outreach in a portion of the Midtown Neighborhood. Midtown Blue patrols the Improvement District (from Piedmont to 75/85) and works closely with MNA leaders to be responsive to resident concerns. Midtown Blue operates private security officers, off-duty APD officers, and monitors hundreds of cameras in the Improvement District.
WORKING TOGETHER TO KEEP MIDTOWN SAFE
MNA has been working with our partners to keep Midtown safe for 58 years. We first brought National Night Out to Midtown in 2003 and we have hosted it annually every year following. We understand how complex crime prevention can be and we support our community’s efforts to be both welcoming and safe for all. We help decipher the layered elements to the public safety continuum and we create a clear path to answers for our fellow Midtown residents.
MNA operates a safety patrol when neighborhood needs and funding allow for the program. Currently, in partnership with APD, Midtown Blue, and outreach organizations, crime in Midtown is trending down and is the lowest it has been in our history. When challenges arise, we are able to collaborate with our partners to deliver response to that issue. While the patrol is currently suspended to manage cost and maximize resources, we are structured and ready to restart when the community needs indicate. If you are interested in discussing this service, please reach out to Paul Luppino, Safety Chairperson, and he can share details about private patrol operating budget and typical strategy.
