Open to all level players. The 13-15 year old group participates in skill training the entire day. The younger age groups’ camp day includes contests and games.

WHAT: Improv and Collaborative Arts

This camp focuses on learning the techniques and skills for great Improv while also digging into to deeper acting techniques. Participants will also use the Improv activities and work together to create their own original scenes and sketches to be showcased on the final day of the week. Your instructors include two professional working actors, Jeremiah Hobbs and Jessica De Maria, who are teaming up to provide students with diversity in experience and instruction. Amanda Drescher; a handcrafted lifestyle studio located off of St. Charles Avenue in the Virginia Highlands.We are offering our second annual round of arts & crafts based summer camps, five separate weeks specifically for ages 4-10 and two weeks targeting 11-13 year olds.

Val and Kel’s Magical Mystery Tour of Atlanta

A Unique Middle School Camp!

After years of parent requests for a special activity for middle schoolers, we are now excited to kick off summer with this unique camp! We are pleased to announce a new camp for rising 6 ^th-8^th graders that is designed to expose kids to something different. We will be teaching campers how to use MARTA, our transit system, to navigate the city, and we will travel to various locales daily.

Description: Our itinerary for the week includes a selection from the following list: spending a day at the zoo with a private look backstage at how the animals are cared for by staff, visiting Turner Field for a behind-the-scenes tour at the stadium, traveling to GA Tech for a campus visit, touring the governor’s mansion, Carlos Museum, the MLK Center, the CNN Center, Agnes Scott Planetarium, Fernbank Science Center and IMAX, and participating in an actors’ workshop at a local theater. In addition to traveling throughout the city, we have lined up guest speakers including a cardiologist to talk with students about saving people’s lives, a local chef, and an expert at Ultimate Frisbee who will teach kids to play. For added fun, we will be involved in a local charity and pack medical supplies, cook out in the park, go swimming, and play kickball.

We have been teaching together for 13 years in Atlanta, first at Pace Academy where we both taught in the Upper School and then at Morningside. Collectively, we have over 45 years of experience teaching children grades 3-12. Our camps have been a mainstay each summer in Piedmont Park with Val’s Taylor Tennis, Golf, and Fishing Camp and Kelly’s Creative Writing Workshops.

Early Drop-off ( 8:30 a.m.) Additional $50

Please bring the following items in a backpack: a sack lunch, drink, poncho and umbrella in case of rain, towel on which to sit in the park, bathing suit, & sunscreen.

What if it rains? Bring a poncho and an umbrella—we’ll continue on with our schedule.

Meeting point: We will meet students each morning at the bottom level of the parking deck located off of Monroe Drive.

“City Sleuths: Exploring the Mysteries of the City” summer camp

ATLANTA (May 8, 2009) – Atlanta area youngsters with a sense of adventure, a curiosity about the past and an affinity for writing will have the chance to explore all three during the “City Sleuths: Exploring the Mysteries of the City” summer camp, sponsored by the Atlanta Preservation Center.

For the third year, the APC is hosting a one-week, full-day session that will draw campers ages 10 to 14 into Atlanta’s past through visits to historic sites, games, riddles, writing and mystery hunts.

“The inspiration for the camps comes from the real world and what is around the campers,” said program director Rebecca Roberts. “At the same time, it gives them an insight into Atlanta’s past and opens their eyes to things they may not have noticed before.”

The camp will be based at the historic All Saints Episcopal Church in Midtown. From there, campers will venture out each day to sites such as the Fox Theatre, a local cemetery, an historic neighborhood, Zero Mile Post and the real Underground, to name a few. The youngsters will compile their impressions and experiences into stories that will become part of a camp anthology at the end of the week. Campers will also draw on those tales to hone other writing styles, including skits, plays, riddles and a radio script.

The camp, set for July 13 to 17, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The $325 tuition includes field trips, drinks and snacks. Tuition for those who register before June 1 is $300. Partial scholarships are available.

For sensitive kids: a number of midtown families with typically developing but sensitive children (including mine) have used his camps or weekend organized sports activities. While he may be more expensive, the difference is that most of the leaders have advanced degrees or specialized training and there are no kids employed.
