FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Wednesday, October 13, 2010

ATLANTA, GA, October 13, 2010 – PARKatlanta is a collaborative initiative led by the City's Department of Public Works that is modernizing the City's parking operations to improve convenience, access, fairness, and service for City motorists, residents, businesses, and visitors.PARKatlanta has the responsibility to enforce parking regulations citywide. PARKatlanta may respond to complaints/requests for parking enforcement in certain areas and during special events.
During the weekend of October 3, 2010 enforcement efforts were collaborated with law enforcement agencies relative to events around the Georgia Dome. Parking violations were enforced with citations and towing for illegally parked vehicles. Our goal is to provide responsive enforcement in the interest of public safety. However in the spirit of public education and awareness we have conducted an extensive review of the violations that occurred during the weekend’s events. Twenty eight (28) vehicles were towed for illegal or improper parking from areas where parking signage was inadequate therefore we will contact those vehicle owners to arrange for a refund of fees paid for towing. This is an anomaly and should not be construed as a regular occurrence. Our sworn officers who handle violations eligible for towing of a vehicle, work diligently to ensure the City’s parking regulations are adhered to.
For more information about the City of Atlanta's parking enforcement program, please visit: www.PARKatlanta.org or call (404) 330-6739.
