Argonne & 6th Stop Sign & Line of Sight Issues / Proposal
Email sent 9-28-10 to City's Dept. of Public Works, c/o: Nursef Kedir.
This is to formally serve as a request for a traffic study along Argonne Avenue in Midtown from the intersection of 6th Street (south), past 5th Street (west) to 5ht Street East, as per our group discussion today at the Midtown Traffic walk-through with Transportation and ParkAtlanta staff.
This study request is for the installation of stop signs at one or two of the above intersections due to line of sight, speeding and slope issues at the three closely-adjacent intersections, surrounding both residential and commercial properties, and including an elementary school bus stop.
This request was originally placed with the Office of Transportation by December 2005, and a study was conducted under Lorn Whitaker (around September 2006), but the results were never made available to the Midtown [neighbors]. Presumably those results are still on-file with the Office of Transportation.
It is understood that the intersection of Argonne and 5th Street South/East is in need of “No Parking Here to Corner” signs, but the slope of the various street segments and on-street parking still requires review for stop signs.
It is also understood that irrespective of the study results, the missing stop sign on 6th Street South/East at Argonne will be replaced, and a new “No Parking Here to Corner” sign will be installed.
