(Archived)
Red Bull Run Closing 10th St. this weekend:
Please note the street closing plans for this event. Red Bull began setting up the event infrastructure on Monday and street closings are set to begin on Thursday, June 7 at 9:30 a.m.
That’s when the street parking lanes on the east and west sides of Charles Allen Drive will close between 8th and 10th St.
Then on Friday, June 8 beginning at 9:30 a.m., 10th Street will start closing in gradual stages. First, it will shut down between Charles Allen Drive and Myrtle Street after the morning rush hour. The north side lane from Monroe Drive to Charles Allen Drive will close at that time too. 10th Street from Myrtle Street to Monroe Drive will close after evening rush hour at about 7:30 p.m.
These streets will be closed to everyone except residential traffic on June 9:
•Argonne Avenue between 8th and 10th Street
•Taft Avenue between 8th and 10th Street
•Charles Allen Drive between 8th and 10th Street
•9th Street between Myrtle Street and Charles Allen Drive
Anyone who cannot access their driveways during this time may park at the teachers' parking lot for Grady High School on 8th Street.
All streets should reopen by Sunday, June 10 at noon, although Red Bull officials have indicated they are targeting a 6 a.m. opening.
More information on Red Bull Street Closings, Signage and Officer Locations:
Our VMS boards informing commuters of the 10th street closures will go up starting Friday June 1st at two locations on 10th street. One will be located on the north side of the street facing east, roughly located across from the Grady practice field entrance. The second will place on the south side of the street just east of the corner of 10th street and Myrtle facing west.
Again, these will be up one week prior to the street closures and will list the day and times 10th street will be closed.
Once the streets are closed these two VMS boards will be relocated to inform commuters and neighborhood residents of the actual street being closed. In addition we will be renting two more VMS boards. The locations of these VMS will be as follows:

2 - By the entrance to the midtown shopping promenade on Monroe between 8th street and Virginia facing south
3 - By the corner of 10th and Juniper facing north

SECTION OF PONCE DE LEON AVENUE WILL BE CLOSED TWO WEEKENDS IN JUNE
FOR EASTSIDE TRAIL CONSTRUCTION
June 8 – 11 (9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday)
June 15 – 18 (9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday)
Atlanta – The Eastside Trail project, now under construction, spans more than two miles from the southeast tip of Piedmont Park to Inman Park and the Old Fourth Ward neighborhoods. It is the next major component of the Atlanta BeltLine slated to open to the public. This project includes a 14-foot wide multi-use concrete trail for walking, running, biking and skating, as well as a significant amount of underground infrastructure to accommodate current and future utilities. It also includes retaining walls, landscaping and the preservation of right of way for the transit system which will be built in the future. The Eastside Trail is the first part of the trail system to be built within the old rail corridor, which will eventually connect 45 neighborhoods.
The section of road between Ponce de Leon Place and the Midtown Place Shopping Center (across from Ponce City Market) will be closed from June 8 through 11 and again from June 15 through June 18, 2012. The weekend of June 22 through 25 has been identified as a back-up weekend should inclement weather warrant.
During the first weekend (June 8 – 10) crews will disassemble the scaffolding that has allowed workers to safely remove lead-based paint and make structural repairs to the bridge over the past two months. The bridge will be lowered to its final elevation during the week of June 11-15. During the second week, the contractor will pour the concrete trail and complete touch-up repairs.
All vehicular access points to the shops at Midtown Place, the Kroger shopping center, Ponce Place and Ford Factory Lofts will be open and accessible during this road closure!
The closures will start at 9 p.m. on Friday evening and will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday morning. Road signs will be in place for the two weeks leading up to the closures to alert drivers on Ponce de Leon Avenue. Sidewalks will periodically be closed to pedestrian traffic as work requires underneath the bridge.
Detour: Detour signs and off duty-police officers will be provided to direct motorists.
Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. appreciates the public’s patience and understanding while work continues on this transformative project.
