2012 Pink Ribbon Walk & 5K Run

Now in its 6
year, Pink Ribbon Walk & 5K Run is an annual fundraising event to purchase of mobile unit. Last year, an estimated 2,500 participated in the walk . An estimated 5,000 participates are expected to gather together for this year’s event on Saturday, July 21, 2012 The walk and run meeting area for the event will be in the Meadow of Piedmont Park. The (5) kilometer route follows a path through Midtown Atlanta, Ansley Forest, and back into the park. The event officially begins at 6:00 AM with the opening of runner and walker check-in. An opening ceremony begins at 6:30., the run starts at 7:45AM, and the walk officially starts at 7:00AM
Venue setup will begin on Friday, July 20, at which time portable toilets, and tents. Interior of the tents (i.e. positioning of tables, chairs and supplies).Tents will be placed on hard scape and grass as approved by the Office of Parks. Overnight shirt security will be in place beginning Friday evening, and remain until Saturday morning. APD begins replacing shirt security at 7:00AM Saturday, July21, and remain until the end of the walk- Saturday, July21 at 11:30aAM.
Radio Base is Pink Ribbon Walk &5K runner ’s event command center, and will be located on the circular stone embankment overlooking the Meadow. Radio Base will be our first functional area, beginning at 7:00AM
We will have 1 group of EMS at the event. The first aid tent, located inside the Charles Allen Gate, open from 7:00AM to 11:30AM for cuts, bumps, and bruises. A medical services ambulance will be stationed adjacent to this tent.
Open from 7:00AM to 11:30AM, lost children will be located at the First Aid station just inside the Charles Allen Gate. The area will also serve as a meeting spot for children and parents who are separated from one another.
Volunteer Check-In (VCI) (Water Station)
Located just beyond the Charles Allen gate within Piedmont Park entirely on the paved path (next to Volunteer check in) is Runner check-In which will be operational at 6:30AM, and closes at 11:30AM.

Located just beyond the Charles Allen gate within Piedmont Park on the paved path (next to Volunteer check in) in which will be operational at 6:00AM, and closes at 11:30AM.
Along the route, walkers will be able to stop for water at six different locations, These areas will be serviced and staff by Pink Ribbon volunteers.
Checkpoint 1 (CP1) locations
This checkpoint will be located at 10
Street and Peachtree . This location will have medical tent tables, chairs and will distribute water to participants just past the restaurant .
Checkpoint 2 (CP2) locations
This checkpoint will be located at Peachtree Circle and Prado NE . This location will have tables, chairs , cheerleaders and will distribute water to participants.
Checkpoint 3 (CP3) locations
This checkpoint will be located at The South Prado to Piedmont Ave . This location will have medical tables, chairs and will distribute water to participants.
Checkpoint 4 (CP4) locations
This checkpoint will be located at 14
Street and Piedmont. This location will have cheerleaders, tables, chairs , and will distribute water to participants.
Checkpoint 5 (CP5) locations
This checkpoint will be located within Piedmont Park just within the 14
Street gate before finish line. . This location will have tables, chairs and will distribute water to participants.
Walk /Run Start Line
Immediately following the opening ceremony the 5K walk/run will begin. A 150 barrier, created using APD barriers will create a chute for walkers to connect from The Meadow to Tenth Street in an attempt to keep walkers on the paved areas of the Meadow. The Walk Start Line will be the space between the barriers and the sponsor tents. The Walk begins at 8:00 AM.
Walk and Run Route
Prior to the, walkers/runners will begin staging in the Meadow for warm up exercise. At the start of the Walk, they will proceed through the start line onto 10th Street at approximately 8:00a.m. The Pink Ribbon Walk and 5K Run route is as follows:
• Exit the Meadow of Piedmont Park proceed in the middle of 10the before reaching The Charles Allen Gate
• West on 10th Street to Peachtree Street (Turn right)
• North on Peachtree Street to 15th Street/Peachtree Circle (Turn right)
• North on Peachtree Circle to The Prado (Turn Left)
• East and South on The Prado to Piedmont Ave. (Turn right)
• Enter Piedmont Park at 14th Street Gate
South along the Active Oval, toward the Visitor’s Center (Turn left)
East along Lake Clara Meer at the base of Oak Hill
The area on 10th Street between Monroe and Charles Allen are requested to be closed on Saturday, July 21, 2012 from 7:00 AM, corresponding with the last walker passing through route intersection. All of the streets listed above will, only be closed until the walkers pass
The street listed. These streets will not be closed the entire time of the walk.
Lane Closures along the Route
The following is the requested route of the run and walk, with the street closures beginning at approximately 7:00 and after the walkers past that street and area the streets will reopen. The walk will be completed around 9:30 am the rest of the activities will take place inside the park.
2 West bound lanes of 10
between Charles Allen and Peachtree
2 North bound lanes of Peachtree between 10
North bound lane of Peachtree Circle between 15
and The Prado
East bound lane of The Prado until S. The Prado
South bound lane of S. The Prado between The Prado and Piedmont
2 south bound lanes of Piedmont between S. The Prado and 14
Re-opening times are approximate, corresponding with the last of the walkers passing through route intersections.
No Parking Signs Posted
No Stopping/Tow Away signs are requested to be posted on all the above-mentioned streets by Friday, night July 20
by Atlanta Police, and along the East Side of Charles between 8
Street and 10
Street to provide for staff and volunteer parking.

In addition to securing the necessary special event permits from the City Of Atlanta, the Walk has met with the City of Atlanta Police Department. APD will devise a day of event plan for barricade positioning, street closures, directional signage, no parking signage, vehicular traffic patterns and officer placement.
Marta will handle the diversion of any buses affected by the Walk route, as well as the notification of commuters. Only Walk related vehicles, emergency vehicles and city agency vehicles will be permitted in the Emergency Access Lane.

The City of Atlanta will provide barricades for the route Skip will position those barricades at street closure locations.
The City of Atlanta will handle signage and all postings necessary to facilitate street closures for the event
Street Sweeping/Trash Removal
Whitten Management has been contracted to maintain trash pick-up, recycle and disposal in all areas utilized by Pink Ribbon Walk & 5K Run
