Dave Matthews Band and Allman Brothers in Piedmont Park this Saturday (9/08)
The historic concert to benefit Piedmont Park and the 53-acre expansion takes place this Saturday with gates opening at 4pm. The Allman Brothers Band will be the special guests; their performance begins at 5:30 pm. Dave Matthews Band performs at 8:05 pm.
As a Green Concert, this is a "carless event" and there will be NO PARKING at the venue or surrounding neighborhoods. This will be strictly enforced by Atlanta police officers and towing will occur. The Piedmont Park Conservancy website (www.piedmontpark.org) has detailed information about the concert.
However, residents need to be prepared. We were asked to pass along the following information:
1. Due to street closures and traffic controls residents should enter and exit the neighborhood to/from the south (by way of Ponce de Leon Avenue). It will not be advisable to try to enter from other directions. When returning, your best chances will be to access Ponce or North Avenue from west of Juniper, or from east of Highland, and then approach the neighborhood.
2. Always have your driver's license and vehicle papers ready when driving in the neighborhood on Saturday. If your driver's license does not show an address in the area your vehicle may be refused entry into the neighborhood.
3. It will help to have a sign on your dashboard. You should use the sign at this URL: http://click.icptrack.com/icp/relay.php?r=25186688&msgid=4941489&act=SEM1&c=52390&admin=0&destination=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.midtownponce.org%2Fdashboard.pdf. You should write your street name on the white space.
4. Call 911 if you have any traffic issues around your home
5. The MPSA will have an officer in the MPSA patrol vehicle.
Because this is a green concert promoting environmental awareness, the use of automobiles in Midtown will be frowned upon on this Saturday, especially in areas near Piedmont Park. Please plan errands accordingly and walk/bike everywhere you can! And in the process think of ways to live more car-free - we Americans have been spoiled on excessive oil consumption and cheap gas prices for too long ...
